Reflection on TIE lesson

I feel that using technology in the classroom is a fantastic idea.  I have only used google docs, which the students all enjoyed.  The problem I was faced with was the amount of time I was able to have in order to complete this assignment with the students.  There wasn't enough time in the lesson to complete the task.  I feel that when I have my own classroom, this would work ideally.  Since that is not the case for us PST's, this is difficult to incorporate.  I wasn't able to create a voicethread to my document which I had hoped to do.  Again, because of the shortness of time.  Third grade is the beginning of the TAKS testing process, which greatly reduces classroom time for anything other then learning the information for the TAKS.  I have found that disappointing yet understandable. So while this is great in theory, the ability to follow through on this has been  limited due to the time constraints.  If anyone out there has some suggestions on how I can find the time to incorporate both googledoc and voice thread, I would appreciate it.

Lesson Plan using googledocs third grade social studies

I created a lesson plan for third grade on the social studies unit about Benjamin Franklin.  After meeting with Dr. Elwood, she showed me a great idea for incorporating a google doc into my lesson.  The activity involved creating a bio-poem about Benjamin Franklin, and each group had one invention/contribution that they wrote about.   This was an activity that my students were interested in, and given enough time during the lesson, it would have benn completed.  As it was, the lesson did not provide enough time to finish all of them.  This is what they were able to accomplish during the lesson/station time.  Let me know what you think.  Thanks!

Blogs

At school on Thursday I was checking out the teacher's computer and seeing if I would be able to start a blog for the students.  When I tried to make a blog it was blocked.  Thus, we will not be able to do a blog for our students if you are a PST at the same school I am at....I was a bit disappointed as I wanted to try it out.

HELP

I'm feeling very very confused by all this blogging and google.docs!  I just made a presentation using google docs, I saved it and now it's gone.  I can't seem to be able to sign in to google docs because I can't find the google doc sign in place!  I am seriously technologically helpless!  Anyone have any ideas on how I can retrieve my presentattion????

Voice Thread

This is a very interesting technological tool.  I like that we can post a "math problem" (for example) and the student can "doodle" to demonstrate how they came up with an answer.  I'm trying to think how this would be useful in Social Studies.  My class is beginning a topic of The U.S. Constitution, famous people in history, etc.  I have broken my lesson down into Benjamin Franklin and his contributions to our country.  It's amazing the information I was able to acquire.  I'm considering doing a voice thread where the students can illustrate a picture of their favorite hero of the time and using the voice recording, read a little "introduction" to the character.  I'm not sure how I would go about doing it, but since I don't have to teach this lesson until March first I'm going to try it.  If anyone has any ideas that could be helpful, I'm open to suggestion!

Google docs

I think google docs will be a useful tool in the classroom in that the students can write their documents in googledocs and share them online with any other students in their classes, with students in other classes.  It is possible to do web pages, spread sheets and drawings.  It would be interesting to have the students do a "travel plan" with students from another state and they can make comparisons with each states differences.  For instance, student A is planning a trip to visit student B.  Student B will give information to Student A via the internet. the same goes for the reverse.  It would be really interesting to use this for students in foreign countries because there is information to be had from the people that live their that we can't access without having experienced the area.
  

Blog for HOTS

In my lesson plan for social studies third grade, I could integrate HOTS via blog by simultaneously corresponding with schools from other districts/towns/states, etc.  It's an unlimited area of correspondence.  In the recent blog I found, a school teacher was teaching about Gettysburg and studies and the trials of John Brown.  He set up four different trials and had other students set up as jurors.  He invited others to voice their opinion as long as they signed there name.  No anonymous entries allowed.  Thought this was a great idea!  this could be used in many school age brackets, with adjustments per grade level.  This assignment can help the student with ability to demonstrate their understanding and comprehension through the use of collaborative learning  what it is to debate through acting.  This in turn will help the student transcribe this "act" into a persuasive writing.  http://dtsdapache.hershey.k12.pa.us/c3e3/amcultclassblog/
